It is announced by the WHO in  its report on March 30th  that RVF has been found in South Africa and 63 cases are reported as of March 27, 2010 including 2 death cases (mortality rate 3.2%). In order to prevent RVF from spreading into our country and to protect safety and health of citizens who are heading for South Africa, the announcement is hereby promulgated in accordance with the Frontier Health and Quarantine Law of the People's Republic of China and its Rules for Implementation.

 

1. Citizens from South Africa shall immediately notify the inspection and quarantine authotities if the symptoms developed including fever, headache and muscle pain when entering the territory of China. Body temperature detection, medical tour inspection should be enhanced by inspection and quarantine authotities  while appropriate medical precautions being applied to the infected person and the suspect which is declared to be RVF virus on the spot.

 

2. The inspection and quarantine authotities  shall apply strictly quarantinable inspection over means of transport, goods, containers, postal parcels from South Africa, implementing effective mosquito control and reinforcing sanitary supervision at frontier port, taking effective larviciding measures and reducing the density of mosquitoes to prevent transmitted diseases.

 

3. People who prepare to leave for South Africa may consult the entry-exit inspection and quarantine authotities and the international travel health centers about relevant information, or the Health Quarantine and Travel Health column on the AQSIQ website. (http://www.aqsiq.gov.cn)

 

4. RVF is a viral zoonosis and the vast majority of human infections result from blood, organ and tissue then transmission of mosquitoes. The incubation period for RVF varies from 2 to 7 days, the symptoms are manifested as a sudden onset of flu-like fever, muscle pain, apparently by joint pain and headache. The severe symptoms associated with retinal lesions, meningoencephalitis. Most fatalities occur in patients is the haemorrhagic fever form. People who are heading for RVF epizootic regions must be aware of anti-mosquito, mosquito extermination, avoiding mosquito bites and contacting with infectious animals and corpses. It is required to consult doctor without delay once the above symptoms are appeared.

 

This announcement is promulgated on  April 15, 2010 and shall be effective for 3 months from its release.
